Dr. Erik Reis is a Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine and Board-Certified Chiropractic Neurologist at The Neural Connection.

Dr. Reis (Rees) received his Doctorate in Chiropractic from Northwestern Health Sciences University, graduating with magna cum laude honors, and graduated from the University of Minnesota with his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology/Exercise Science, with an emphasis in human motor performance in both athletic and therapeutic settings.

Dr. Reis currently holds a Diplomate in Functional Neurology from the American Chiropractic Neurology Board and is a Certified Brain Injury Specialist through the Brain Injury Association of America. He has completed thousands of hours of additional post-graduate coursework utilizing clinical applications and therapeutic interventions in the neurological and nutritional rehabilitation of traumatic brain injuries, concussions, and vestibular disorders through the Carrick Institute of Clinical Neuroscience.

Dr. Reis is also a lecturer for Erchonia, a cutting-edge medical device company with 20 of the 24 FDA-approved patents for low-level laser therapy and photobiomodulation devices on the market today.

In his spare time, he enjoys playing lead/rhythm guitar in his band, “The Night Caps.” He is a lifelong learner who enjoys writing, educating, participating in competitive recreational sports, and spending time with his amazing family and dog.

Dr. Thompson Maesaka is a Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine and Functional Neurologist at The Neural Connection.

Dr. Thompson Maesaka (My-Uh-Sock-Uh) is a Minnesota native and doctor of Chiropractic Medicine. He received his training from Northwestern Health Sciences University, where he completed a hybrid track combined with over 1000 hours of specialized neurology training from The Carrick Institute of Graduate Studies. He also earned a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Maesaka brings a unique mix of experience into his therapeutic approach. He’s lived through the struggles of sports related concussions himself, and will readily share his experience living with a spouse suffering from migraines. His patients will tell you he’s deeply compassionate, understanding, and willing to listen to all of your concerns before giving advice. He believes feeling heard and not feeling judged is the foundation to an effective therapeutic partnership, and you’ll feel this with each interaction.

Dr. Maesaka is an active advocate for people with chronic neurologic conditions, frequently lecturing to help spread awareness for families and individuals struggling with complex conditions. His life mission is to collect all the knowledge so he can give it away to the people that need it.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Maesaka enjoys playing golf, exercising with his wife, and playing in his band Flannel, MN’s premier 1990s cover band. He and his wife Theresa have a Corgi named Reggie, and a tuxedo cat named Beans, and will always share pictures and videos of them wrestling, cuddling, and generally being adorable.

Dr. Michael Hennes (Hen-iss) is a Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine and Board-Certified Chiropractic Neurologist at The Neural Connection. He received his Doctorate in Chiropractic from Northwestern Health Sciences University, graduating with both his Doctorate and Bachelors’s in Human Biology. Prior to this, he studied Human Biology at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Dr. Hennes currently holds a Diplomate in Functional Neurology from the American Chiropractic Neurology Board and is a Certified Brain Injury Specialist through the Brain Injury Association of America. He has completed thousands of hours of additional post-graduate coursework. He has a special interest in neurological rehabilitation, neurochemistry, and nutrition and working with traumatic brain injury, concussion, vestibular disorders, and migraine disorders.

Dr. Hennes also serves the surrounding communities through the Minnesota Chiropractic Association Sports Council providing sideline care to area sporting events. As part of the MCA, he is also legislatively active on behalf of his profession.

In his “alleged” free time he is an avid DIY’er and enjoys woodworking. He also enjoys traveling, foreign languages, learning about wine, and spending time with his family.

Our practice primarily focuses on treating complex neurological disorders that range from traumatic brain injuries (TBI’s), dysautonomia, sport-related concussions, vestibular-related disorders (Vertigo/Dizziness), complex regional pain syndromes (CRPS), headaches/migraines, and chronic pain syndromes. Their treatments focus on individualized neurological rehabilitation protocols focused on increasing function through sensorimotor training and neuro-orthopedic exercises.

The Doctors manage pain and dysfunctional movement by utilizing corrective exercises, soft tissue modalities, manual therapies, gait retraining protocols and individualized neuromuscular training programs fit for the specific needs of their patients. They also utilize comprehensive nutritional and metabolic testing to address potentially limiting dysfunctions of the immune, endocrine, and nervous systems.

Our Doctors believe the connection between neurological function and nutritional status is essential to understanding how to fully maximize brain function, which is why they takes a multifaceted approach to improve their patient’s brain health and wellness.

They leverage the building of trusting relationships for the benefit of the patient and is willing to take the extra step(s) needed to ensure the highest quality of patient satisfaction for greater clinical outcomes.

The Doctors also recognize the importance of education, which is why they love teaching their patients about their overall health and wellness to provide the necessary knowledge to be able to take control of their health when away from the office.
